What did that sign say?

October 2nd, 2009 -Get out your binoculars and reflective traffic vests |
October 2nd, 2009
After waiting months for the promised speed limit signs to be installed, residents who had created their own signs have been ordered to remove them.
If you have binoculars handy and
happen to be looking in the right direction, you might catch a glimpse of these new speed limit signs attached to telephone poles outside the park and on a few street light poles inside the park.
I guess for some, the removal of the home made signs signaled a return to business as usual here. Speeds have been up dramatically today and I even noticed that the blue Parkbridge Maintenance truck had no regard for the "strictly enforced" speed limits. I like you Dave, I really do. But if you're not willing to lead by example....
Some other vehicles passing by today were just a blur with no hope of ever obtaining a license plate number.
So who is it that's going to be "strictly enforcing" these speed limits anyway? We've been told by Parkbridge Calgary that any reports made through our web forms will simply be ignored. Has anyone seen management monitoring traffic speeds anywhere in the park? Has anyone seen a follow up to the last notice warning of possible evictions for those caught speeding? Has anyone ever been thanked for making a speeding report? Has your report even been acknowledged?
There was no mention of the signs or the speeding problem in the September newsletter, either from management or from blockwatch. No, their priorities were discussing the great time they had at the summer picnics that most of us had not even been informed of. Apparently our local block watch leader has been incapacitated and unable to respond to my questions about who else might be representing blockwatch in his absence. I notice he was well enough to respond for the September newsletter though.
For those who aren't aware (because blockwatch just isn't interested) most of the hookers have now been driven out of the park. Seems they don't care for the cameras flashing and having their pictures taken while they go about their business along the Bayou avenue entrance.
Something else blockwatch may not have informed you about, armed robbery getaway attempts being pursued through the park at high speeds. Thanks very much to Otter Co-Op again for thinking of their employees and neighborhood safety before taking out a multi page ad to brag about their record profits over the past few years.
I see they've toned that down a bit this year but still haven't entirely learned their lesson.
These local papers and the ads placed in them make their way to every crack head in the lower mainland. When they read about how much money is changing hands at Co-Op, it's only a matter of time till they're flocking to this area like flies to a horse. This is why you may occasionally see someone wearing a security guard costume standing in the Otter Co-Op entrance now. Nothing like an armed robbery or 2 to really educate a store manager.
I can't put any blame on the RCMP for the speeds required to follow these crack heads as they attempt to find a through road and an exit out of Langley Grove Estates. The RCMP are generally trained to stop before taking out a pedestrian.
Those of you still ignoring the speed limits here are not and it's inevitable that one of us is soon going to pay with our life or at least suffer very serious injuries if this is not dealt with immediately.
My suggestion? Photocell activated spike strips. Although even with 4 flat tires, I'm sure some of these residents who continue to ignore our safety will just carry on as usual.
Still waiting for the promised repainting of safety markings on our park roadways. Maybe "towards the end of (next) September"....... ;)
